New salvos in AMD-Nvidia video card wars

With AMD and Nvidia refreshing their high-end graphics lines (6950/70 and 570/80 GTX, respectively), we knew that the mid-range was due for some new cards very soon. Well, that day has arrived, with Nvidia debuting their 560 GTX Ti and AMD following up with the 1GB version of their already-released 6950, both competing around the $250 range. Both cards appear to be strong contenders, with the AMD offering performing slightly better than its Nvidia rival, but commanding a $15 premium over the 560 GTX. Also interesting is the fact that the 1GB version of the 6950 appears to have nearly identical performance to 2GB 6950, making it a great choice for the budget-minded gamer. I'm looking at building a new gaming system, and it's looking like a pair of 1GB 6950s would make a great graphics set-up! If you'd like a more in-depth analysis of these two cards, please head on over to anandtech.com, a favorite site of mine that has two excellent articles on these cards.

  5. I've always liked AMD (or ATI) as well, mostly because they were always the better value when compared to similar Nvidia cards.

  9. Wow the gpu market is definitely intense! Who wants 400$ video cards for slightly better performance? The 250$ range is fine because at the end of the day, nobody cares about little diferenses between vcards.
